What are the Top 5 Misconceptions About Hiring a Personal Trainer?

Best Gym Membership in Pasadena MD

If you’ve considered hiring a personal trainer to help you reach your goals, but still feel a bit nervous about it, you’ve come to the right place. At Rockwell Fitness, we know that deciding to invest in a professional trainer is not always an easy decision, which is why we’re here to shed some light on what it’s really like to work with a personal trainer to help you reach your specific fitness goals.

For this article, we spoke with personal trainer Bree Moore of Severna Park (Certification: ISSA-CPT), to learn more about the misconceptions people commonly have about hiring a personal trainer. Continue reading as we debunk each myth one at a time.

“Personal trainers are perfect all the time.”

Personal trainers are people too! While they probably have a passion for fitness, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have other obligations and responsibilities outside of the gym. Personal trainers have off days just like the rest of us.

“A personal trainer eats healthy 100% of the time and never misses a day in the gym.”

Sustainable fitness is all about living a balanced lifestyle, and personal trainers know that. Not only are rest days crucial to muscle recovery and overall performance, but taking adequate days off from the gym and indulging in their favorite unhealthy foods from time to time are all aspects of living a well-rounded and enjoyable life.

“Personal trainers can’t relate to clients’ struggles.”

One of the best aspects of hiring a personal trainer is having someone on your side who likely understands exactly what you’re struggling with and can give helpful, realistic advice. Remember: Personal trainers were not always personal trainers! They were beginners at one point, too. Chances are they’ve gone through the same thing, which makes them the perfect person to relate to.

“A personal trainer will yell at me if I do something wrong or miss a session.”

Unlike what is shown in movies, personal trainers don’t want to see you in pain. What they really want is to make working on your fitness an enjoyable experience that you continue to pursue for years to come. Not to mention that personal trainers are there to teach you how to exercise properly, which means that mistakes are expected and even celebrated as a sign of you doing something out of your comfort zone.

“Hiring a personal trainer is only for people who want to lose weight.”

Not necessarily! Personal trainers work with you to come up with an exercise plan based on your individual goals. Whether you do want to lose weight, build muscle mass, train for a specific sport or simply increase your body’s functional performance, a personal trainer can help.
